Drove in from Lebec off interstate 5 just past Gorman. A Monday morning and in no hurry so why not take a drive i have never been this road. It took me 8 hours to go the 100+ miles to Ojai. I was in no hurry and taking pictures and I had the road all to myself. I think i saw maybe 6 cars on that stretch of road and I was stopping every couple of miles. See photos...was hoping to see a Condor but wasn't my day.

It is possible to drive through the refuge. However, the hiking trail was closed to protect California Condors.

We took the scenic route from I-5 to Pismo Beach and passed through Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge. The route was incredibly scenic, but if you are a hurry do not take this route - lots of curves and you may get behind slow moving vehicles with no room to pass. This a potential place to view the California Condors so we stopped a few times and scanned the skies. W did not see any, but we di see several Golden Eagles soaring above the trees..

Beautiful vistas and lots of wildlife. Drive carefully though, the road is narrow and turns are tight. Take your time and enjoy the outdoors, close by is Pine Mountain Club, there's a few great places to eat there.
