Cooper-Hollow Wildlife Area

This a large wildlife area that also has a few of the old iron furnaces. There are wetlands, ponds, streams and much more. As far as hiking goes, the only thing that I could find was what looked to be a road at one time. You can also see paths from where others hiked before. The map from the ODNR is hard to read. If there are actually trails that are named and marked that would be great. Other than that, it is a quiet and scenic place.

Beautiful place. We love it ! I have never ever given 5 stars to anyone. We love to wild harvest. Don't take too much, the wildlife depend on it more ! Saw a deer ( doe) and an indigo snake ( I think), heard some barred owls, saw a water turtle, frogs, birds in abundance ! Found a morel mushroom also.

The old iron Madison Furnace is located from a short trail to the right of the very small parking lot right past the Cooper Hollow archery sign. It is visible from the road and is near a pond. Do not take the trail from the parking area up the hill by the telephone poles. It is not located at the ranger station, but down the road a little. There is another old iron furnace down the road near a farm that looks to be on private property. There are trails (easy to moderate) from the ranger station maintenance area (White pole barn buildings), which houses the archery range area. Hunting and fishing information can be found at the maintenance station bulletin board.

Great place to visit. Well maintained. Archery range looks like fun and will return for it. Plan to go fishing there soon. The kids liked looking around at the old furnace and listening to the birds.
