I have only used the shotgun range. The mounted clay bird throwers are great! There are 4 mounted throwers on a concrete pad. Usually this range had no one using it. Ocassionally there will be one other party using the range. There is also a portion of the range where you can use your own thrower. I get the yearly range pass, along with my hunting license and Ohio Wildlife Magazine, which is a great bargain
Good hunting day. Everyone was friendly and practicing appropriate firearm safety. Dogs were on point. No pun intended.
Great place to walk the dogs. Read a poor review of encountering "snakes and turtles". Well it is a NATURE PRESERVE:) "
Nice wildlife area with a beautiful pond. There's a semi mowed path by the pond which provides some nice views. Some watchouts includes ticks and the occasional animal hole along the path. The holes are pretty deep and I could see someone twisting or breaking an ankle.
Excellent shooting range. Pistol and rifle covered ranges. Cardboard on targets is always awful. Now we bring our own. Wish there was some gravel around the PVC pipes to stand the targets in so they didn't get filled with sand. The roads into the range are really dusty. We shoot here often because these are tiny problems on a really nice range.
Couldn't find any posted information by ODNR about the recent rifle range additions, so I relied on reviews to determine if they had a 100-yard range. Unfortunately, despite a few reviews saying they do, there is in fact not a 100-yard range at this location. There is a 50 and 25-yard rifle, and 7-yd pistol range, in addition to trap and archery ranges. Unless they hid the 100-yard range in a separate location with no signage, it doesn't exist. I can't fault this location for that obviously, and the amenities they do have are fantastic. I'll definitely be coming back to use this range for any pistol or mid/close range rifle visits, especially given it's still closer to me than the nearest 100 yard range, but if you're looking for 100 yard range you'll have to go elsewhere.
Went to fish and it's not been mowed , except for a path. Full of snakes and turtles. One man was bitten by a snake when I was there. He was trying to get his fishing line returned and it was stuck, he climbed down the bank to the edge of the pond and was bitten. It's sad, this used to be a close place to fish. Not now. May 2024
Small update to rant. Why on Earth would anyone conduct a controlled dove hunt on opening day of squirrel season? It's public land, you should go in expecting someone to ruin your hunt nut this is a new level of stupid. Well maintained. Patrolled by ODNR more than most areas I go to so that keeps a majority of the idiots away. Shotgun range is bordering all of the best deeper wooded areas so occasionally I'll go out for a hunt an people will show up and go crazy at the range which pretty much beds everything up for a few hours until they've left. Not the best placement but it's not a super frequent problem. Very clean and pretty area.
