Good new place to hunt but didn't see any deer
A fun little hike... Once you get past the mound of trash at the beginning of the trail! Yuck. But after that the short hike is easy, if a bit rocky, picturesque and the waterfall at the end a definite reward. Plus my husband and I were lucky to see two very curious & adorable baby foxes! (The trash made it 3 star but the foxed bumped it back up to 5!)
Hiked North on the AT through here. Started at the state park and went to PA rte 183. Rocky hiking on the ridge. Some nice shelters, especially at 501. Only a few great lookouts in this area, mostly looking at your feet to avoid breaking an ankle, or a lot of trees.
Nice 2 mile hike on the Appalachian trail from Rt 501 to Rt 645 with 2 beautiful overlooks. Right now one of the only sections around that area that is not overly muddy from all the recent rains.
We enjoy hiking our pack of 4 dogs here when it's not hunting time! But other than that I personally wouldn't come here flying bugs, ticks and spiders everywhere!
Actually visited Camp Swatara. A great family camp and summer camp for kids. Is affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. Ministers to people so they can be recharged and minister to others in the name of Christ. Great hiking on the Blue Mountain. There is access to the Appalachian Trail. Just a great place to fellowship.
Large State Game land. Deer, bear, coyotes, and small game. Be prepared for rugged terrain, lots of boulders on this mountain. Probably would not recommend for the novice hunter, those not physically fit, or those lacking land nav skills. Shot an 8 point here.
This was a great day hike. There was a parking lot on either side of this section of the application trail.
