Going to see the bats and the sunset is one of the best free activities in the Sacramento/Davis area. Update: the bat colony is more popular now! We arrived too late on 7/16 (8:30 pm) and had just missed the bats. We also noticed that all the parking near the prime viewing area under the causeway was taken, so we returned 7/17 at 7:50 pm and saw the bats emerge at 8:15-8:25 pm. It was really spectacular. Go bats!

It's a great place to watch the wetland wildlife. The property is kept clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The gates close promptly at sunset, don't get stuck!

So many birds! Great things come to those who arrive early and move slowly.

Awesome place to get away and get some fresh air. Great place for wilife viewing. If you have patience you will see a lot. I recommend if you take the auto tour to drive slow as there may be potholes and the road can be bumpy. also be aware of surroundings. Since I've gotten more into birding the variety of birds here are amazing all year long. The auto tour does recommend to stay in car, although I've seen many people get off and wonder off some restricted areas. This place does offer some trails which are listed upon arrival in parking lot area. In the summer lots of people come at sunset to watch the Mexican free-tailed bats fly out under the yolo causeway, which is a site to see!. If you haven't seen it, you must! Typically the best spots to park are by entrance to get a good view. Overall a great place for Nature lovers and wildlife.

Very nice place for walking. They have several trails that are marked and you can tell the distance if you use the app or look online before arriving.

Thank you, yolo bypass wildlife area, we got a chance to see some nature near by :-) If you got a little car with little tires, you might drive carefully... Some of those pot holes were pretty big but well worth the navigation

A serene scenic view. There’s an auto tour you can take. You have to stay in your vehicle, while on the tour. And… I can’t wait to go bat watching.

When duck hunting there for the first time we shot a limit people were friendly at the check station a few unethical Hunters skyscraping birds that were way out of range would not let them work.
