Beautiful trails! Well maintained, miles and miles to walk and explore. Not really marked besides the main trail, but there are lots of little breaks off of the main trail to explore, those seem to be unmarked though. Seems like they’re in the process of grading and adding more too. Not a whole lot of shade and has a decent amount of sun exposure so definitely mornings or evening is the move if you’re fair skinned like me lol
The Trails here at the EHWMA, Hatchineha Unit were well maintained but not marked when we hiked here in August 2021. There is a nice designated parking area and passthrough gate but no water or facilities. It would be a good idea to print out a map from the website (there was no kiosk or maps as of 8/2021). Don't forget to bring a compass and plenty of water. We hiked through pine flatwoods, scrub and came upon a few wet places in the trail crossing cut-throat seeps. Many of the trail/roads are sugar sand and can be challenging, especially in dry hot weather. There are some beautiful oak hammocks on the Eastern side. We had a relaxing, peaceful, hike in this beautiful wild place! This Preserve is also a FWC Wildlife Management Unit. It consists of 1460 acres and borders Allen David Broussard Catfish Creek Preserve State Park in the South and The Nature Conservancy property to the East.
