We left withing 30 minutes of arriving. The campsite was hit with huge gusts of wind off the water, without ceasing, and the bathrooms were inexcusable. The womens restroom next to site 44 has wasps in the wood trim around the door, there are no working lights or daylight, and to top it off, there are scorpions inside. Save your family the trouble and go anywhere else. The only good thing to say about this place is that the park attendant was nice and warned us about the rattlesnake problem.
The trails are amazing they connect with Lacy walking trails so you can get a really good long hike in.
Lack of signage all way from highway 6. The park is still not cleaned up from flood. Lot of unusable places, closed area, rv spaces are arranged too close to each other. Tent spaces are arranged too close to each other. Lack of individual's spacing between. Lot of damages need to be addressed. So disappointed. It was beautiful maybe more than 15 years ago.
Pretty good place Very quiet which we love. Things look a little glum with all the dead trees on the ground and of course dead grass in this drought. Bathrooms aren't bad. This is pretty common in a lot state parks we've seen but the showers have one option. On! And its hot! 40ft fifth wheel fit nicely in spot 17 and in the afternoon there was a bit of shade. Enjoyed our stay and we would definitely return. 28 a night is a definite plus.
Based on Day Use ONLY||Price: Cheap, $5. |Drive to get there: So many other spots easier to get to|Fishing: For our fishing day, difficult to fish. The lake is low and the rocks are dangerous to climb (or stand) on. Thankfully my size 12 gave me more surface space but the other person wasn’t able to maneuver. |Crowds: We were there 2 different days and never once saw 1 person. First day we drove around just to check out. Second day, after reading reviews, we decided to listen to the reviews instead of just what we saw the day before. Wished we had gone to the Brazos or found another place.
We camped by the lake on a quiet night and enjoyed the sounds of nature and only one boat. We had most of the place to ourselves a few partyers but nothing bad. The bath house was toasty but so was everything else. Very enjoyable and away from the crowds of football games and shoppers.
Nice location, full of wildlife but the Bathrooms were unusable. The first time I went at night, all sorts of bugs were landing on me including spiders on my head. During the day, wasps kept me from going in. I have camped in many places over several decades and never had an issue like this.
Definitely seen better days but they slowly making necessary repairs and updates. 15-20 years ago it was excellent, but several MAJOR floods and droughts have really took the toll on this park.
